How to Export Figma to PDF (Frame, Page, or Whole File)
Select what you want, open the Export panel in the right sidebar, set the format to PDF, click Export. That's the whole command — it works on a single frame, a layer, or a section, and produces one PDF file.
There's no separate "Figma to PDF" tool to install and no converter site to upload your file to. It's one dropdown in a panel Figma already shows you.
PDF sits in Figma's format dropdown right next to PNG and SVG, so it looks like it should work the same way. It mostly does — until you want more than one frame in the file, at which point the panel that just worked for images quietly stops being the right tool. This covers both cases, plus the handful of places PDF export behaves differently from what people expect.
What "export Figma to PDF" usually means
Almost everyone searching this has one of three actual goals, and they need different commands:

Exporting one frame as a PDF
- Select it. Click the frame, section, group or individual layer. Whatever's selected is what gets exported — nothing else on the canvas is included.
- Open Export in the right sidebar. Scroll down in the Design panel until you see the Export section, and click the
+to add a setting. - Change the format to PDF. It defaults to PNG. The scale and suffix fields next to it don't mean anything for PDF and can be ignored.
- Click Export at the bottom of the panel, then pick a save location.
Marked more than one thing for export? Figma writes one PDF per layer, not one PDF containing all of them — the same rule that applies to every format in that panel. If you got eight files instead of one, that's expected behaviour, not a bug; it's covered in batch exporting from the panel.
Exporting a whole page as one PDF
For a deck, a spec document or anything meant to read as pages 1 through N, the Export panel is the wrong tool — it has no concept of combining files. The command that does is in the main menu:
File → Export frames to PDF.
It takes every top-level frame on the current Figma page and writes them into a single document, ordered by where each frame sits on the canvas. That's a different enough process — with its own rules about page order, nested frames, and what silently gets left out — that it has its own full guide, including how to control the order and why frames sometimes go missing.
Why you don't need a converter
Searching "Figma to PDF converter" mostly turns up sites that ask you to upload a Figma link or a file, wait, and download a PDF back. Worth knowing before using one:
- It's not doing anything Figma can't. Both export paths above are native, free, and built into the desktop and web apps.
- It's slower. An upload-and-wait round trip versus a menu click.
- Your design leaves your control. A third-party service now has a copy of a file that may be under NDA or contain unreleased work.
- It often produces a worse result. Many of these tools render a static screenshot rather than Figma's own vector-and-embedded-fonts export, so text and shapes lose the crispness a native export keeps at any zoom level.
The only case where a separate tool earns its place is combining PDFs Figma already exported — merging a design-frame PDF with a cover page written elsewhere, say. That's a PDF-editing job, not an export job, and any PDF merge tool handles it.
FigJam: the one exception
FigJam boards don't have a one-click "export whole board to PDF" command, and it's worth understanding why rather than assuming it's missing by accident. File → Export frames to PDF is a design-file feature built around top-level frames as pages — and a FigJam board isn't structured that way. Content lives loosely on the canvas or inside sections, not inside frames stacked into a page sequence.
What does work:
- Export a section. The same Export panel from the single-frame steps above works on a FigJam section exactly like it works on a frame — select it, add a PDF export setting, export.
- Export stickies or a selection. Select the objects you want and export just that selection.
- Zoom to fit and use your browser's print dialog as a fallback for a whole-board snapshot —
Print → Save as PDFcaptures what's on screen, which is a reasonable approximation for a board that isn't meant to paginate anyway.
Mobile app and other limits
The Figma mobile app is built for viewing and leaving comments, not for exporting. There's no export command in it at all, PDF or otherwise. Open the file in a browser at figma.com or in the desktop app to export anything.
Blank or cut-off pages
Two symptoms, two unrelated causes:
- Content is cut off at the frame's edge. Check Clip content on the frame. When it's off, anything overflowing the frame's bounds still renders on the canvas — but a PDF export respects the frame's actual dimensions, so content past that edge simply doesn't make it in.
- The page comes out blank. Check visibility. A frame toggled off, or every layer inside it hidden, exports as an empty page rather than getting skipped — Figma still reserves the page, it just has nothing to draw on it.

How do I export Figma to PDF?
